Re: Full Circle?
"But the spirit of light above form, never-born, within all, outside all, is in radiance above life and mind, and beyond this creation's Creator... Know him as all that is, and all that is not, the end of love-longing beyond understanding, the highest in all beings...In the supreme golden chamb...

Re: Full Circle?
I was reading through this essay again, and want to clarify that I do not believe that it is saying we are living without God. I understand it to mean that we are throwing out the God of concepts, which most of you have talked about. The God that is too narrow, because it is encased in our thoughts,...

Re: Full Circle?
This is a wonderful addition to this conversation, called the Three metamorphasis of the Soul. I went googling after this was mentioned on the inteview documentary of Joseph Campbell. This essay applies it well to the seeker of truth and to the struggle of letting go of the Tribal God. http://member...

Re: Loneliness
The ego can wallow in loneliness or it can avoid it like the plague. Neither is a meeting. In a true meeting with loneliness the ego dissolves and expansion is recognized. Here is a never-ending exploration in all directions mjoel's statement is so true to what I've discovered in the last few month...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
Perfect story! I had to chuckle, and also recognize how true this is. I spent years trying to find an easier way to get sober before I surrendered and allowed sobriety to happen to me, which it did, once 'I' stepped out of the way. Why would I be any different now? It is as though I'm doing exactly ...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
I still need to process a lot of what you said, but I definately relate to this statement: "I myself find it extremely hard to relinquish that God to whom, as to Ghostbusters, I can "turn." It's a constant battle for me. And at times, I feel very weary in the running and fighting of i...

Re: Messages in Movies
I'm sure I'm probably a good decade or two behind everyone, but I watched the documentary Joseph Campbell: The Power of Myth tonight. I could sit and listen to him talk for days. Very refreshing, moving and validating. He even talked about Martin Buber's I/thou ideas.

Re: Out in the cold too long?
How cool that you suggest this little experiment to better understand the idea of relationship. It is exactly what I've done the last few days since reading the last post about relationship...stepping back a bit and seeing this constant interaction and interconnectedness that is always happening, an...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
Speculum, could you expound on your idea of Relationship, as you used it in your post? I find this very interesting and would like to understand better how you are using this word. a side note: I called up my old employer that I worked for while I was going back to school and a family moved to town ...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
I will say that I've handled this trauma better than any before. I agree, that just as the story of the hurricane and Anna's description of surrendering to the existential angst that being a human being entails, these times are for moving even deeper into that acceptance. For me personally, God ofte...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
I understand your 'bit sad, but relieved' with leaving cboard. Why would any of us stay around others that are intent on hurting us? I have struggled for the last year with my boss, but loved the residents at the facility where I work. So, as you did, Art, I stayed around past what was a good thing....

Re: Out in the cold too long?
I think this essay is great and talks about the importance of authentic dialogue, and it address what prevents this beneficial practice and what encourages it. The Art of Enlightened Communication What would it be like to engage with others in a place far beyond the boundaries of the personal self? ...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
" Realtions between the collectivity and the person should be arranged with the sole purpose of removing whatever is detrimental to the growth and mysterious germination of the impersonal element in the soul. This means, on the one hand, that for every person there should be enough room, enough...

Re: Out in the cold too long?
So glad you are here Dr Seus, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. I would say that I was probably born depressed! I think my alcohol and drug addiction probably resulted from this initial condition. I have a son just like me. In the fourth grade he was tackling issues of Is there a God, and why...

Re: Full Circle?
Art, I really like what you have written. I've focused so much up to now on letting go of the ego, the I, it is strange to me that I'm having this time of feeling like I need to let go of God. Maybe it is as you are saying, I'm letting go of the old ideas of God. ( I like the computer analogy a lot)...
